Stay an extra day and enjoy Experience Nelson Day on Thursday May 7. This special event will introduce you to the charms of Nelson including a ride on Streetcar 23, the exhilarating walk through Lakeside Rotary Park, a coffee break at the world renowned Oso Negro Coffee Shop, a tour of the 100 year old Nelson Brewing Company or a visit to the historic Fire Hall, and a visit to the enchanting Touchstones Museum & Art Gallery downtown. For those wanting a more vigorous experience, hikes to Pulpit Rock can be arranged. Full day and half-day options are available.

The Hospitality Committee is recruiting Home Stay Hosts for the duration of the conference and Home Hospitality Hosts for the popular Home Hospitality dinner on Friday May 8 at 6 pm. There is a wide variety of commercial accommodations available ranging from the Lakeside Prestige Inn, the historic Hume Hotel, the modest Adventure Hotel as well as many bed and breakfast establishments throughout the city.

Golfers will delight in the 9-hole, best ball scramble at 8:30 am on Friday May 8 at Granite Point Golf Club. The official opening of the conference will take place following lunch provided at the conference site, Mary Hall at Selkirk College’s 10th Street Campus. Motivational speakers include Stephen Brown, former Rotary Foundation Trustee and award recipient of the Meritorious Service Award and Distinguished Service Award and Tom Hierck, internationally renowned educator, motivational speaker & author.

The District Governor’s Ball on Saturday May 9 will enchant all with a tasting of local libations of the Nelson Brewing Company followed by a sumptuous banquet. All ages will dance the night away to the entertaining 9 piece dance band and local favorites, Clinton Swanson and Friends.

As this is a special weekend with Mother’s Day on Sunday May 10, an optional breakfast buffet will be held at Mary Hall following the Memorial Service.
